Worldwide Shortage of Citrus Oils Prompts Pure Citrus Air Freshener Price Increase
January 27, 2011 Conroe, Texas
For over 10 years, consumers have come to expect the highest level of quality from the Blue Magic, Inc. line of Pure Citrus spray air fresheners. Unfortunately, world-wide demand for citrus oils (d-limonene) continues to increase despite higher market prices created in large part by a shrinking supply.
Due to the most recent orange crop shortages combined with the increasing demand for citrus oils, Blue Magic, Inc. has been forced to increase the price of its Pure Citrus 7 oz. spray air fresheners. Florida and Brazilian orange crop levels are 30% below where they were two years ago. Citrus oils represent over 60% of Pure Citrus product costs.
"These escalating and unprecedented prices of citrus oils can no longer be mitigated with production efficiencies. Over the past two years we have absorbed all raw materials costs and now must raise our prices" said Jerry M. O'Pry, President/ CEO, Blue Magic, Inc
Citrus Oils are a commodity and like all commodities are subject to market conditions. If prices do not stabilize or drop, the company fears that further action may be required. "Blue Magic has not been able to find a suitable substitute, and we will not sacrifice the quality of a product that our customers have come to depend on" continued O'Pry.
With current raw material supplies limited, Blue Magic will not commit to supporting any forward buys at this time. Until further notice, the company will be filling orders consistent their customers' prior purchase history. For the first quarter of 2011, Blue Magic retail customers may experience shortages of the product until these market conditions correct themselves.
